If your child is starting their very first day of school they might be a little overwhelmed by the whole experience. A new routine, new teacher, new surroundings. You can help ease their transition to school life by taking a few steps before school starts to make all those new experiences a little less unfamiliar.
Stop by your local library to sit in on story time. This will help your child get used to hearing someone new reading in a group setting. Talk to your child about what they can expect at school. Using examples of experiences that they are familiar with and enjoy, like story time at the library, can help reduce any worry they might have and get them excited about school.
Another way to help with the transition is to go to the school and play in the playground before the school year begins. When your child is familiar with the environment they won’t be so overwhelmed when the big day arrives.
